LanguageCert International ESOL SELT is a computer-based Secure English Language Test approved by the UK Home Office. Unlike Trinity GESE, there is no face-to-face examiner — you sit at a computer with headphones and a microphone. The test covers speaking and listening at either A2 or B1 level.
Listening component
You listen to a series of short recordings and answer questions. Recordings cover everyday situations: conversations, announcements, instructions. Questions test your understanding of the main point, specific details, and the speaker's attitude.
Speaking component
You respond to audio prompts by speaking into a microphone. Tasks include responding to questions, describing images, and expressing opinions. Your responses are recorded and assessed by trained examiners.
Predictable format
Unlike Trinity GESE where the examiner's follow-up questions are unpredictable, LanguageCert has a structured format you can prepare for systematically.
No topic preparation required
Trinity GESE requires you to prepare and present a topic. LanguageCert does not — there is no prepared presentation element.
No examiner anxiety
Some candidates find face-to-face examinations more stressful. LanguageCert's computer-based format removes the interpersonal pressure.
